Artificial intelligence glossary
Learn the most important terms from the world of voicebots and artificial intelligence with our glossary!
A words
Algorithm
Algorithm – a sequence of activities leading to completing a task and solving a problem. In the field of artificial intelligence algorithms are instructions to a machine that show it how to solve a given problem. They are used to analyze data and learn from it to generate models used in order to make decisions.
Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) – simulation of human intelligence by machines. AI can understand, analyze and interpret data similarly to the human brain and learn based on machine learning and influx of new data. Artificial intelligence is able to detect relationships between pieces of information, formulate conclusions and make simple decisions. Find out more about AI in business.
Automatic speech recognition
Automatic speech recognition (ASR) – it is a technology that allows for automatic recognition of what a human says and then converting the speech into text that can be understood by a machine and used for further analysis.
B words
Big data
Big data – large sets of various data that can be processed and analyzed using artificial intelligence, finding regularities and repeatable patterns in them and thus gaining access to new knowledge. This data comes from many sources, for example the result of the activities of companies and institutions or the registration of geographical information.
C words
Chatbot
Chatbot – automatic text assistant using natural language processing and talking to a human in natural language. It is mainly used in customer service.
Computer vision
Chatbot – image recognition by a machine for further processing and analysis. It is used in many areas, including the analysis of aerial and satellite images, quality control in industry and agriculture, medical imaging, road traffic tracking, and facial detection and identification.
Conversational AI
Conversational AI – a type of artificial intelligence that is able to conduct a voice conversation with a human in natural language. A tool that uses conversational artificial intelligence is a voicebot.
D words
Data science
Data science – this is a field in which data analysis methods are used to turn them into valuable knowledge. Data science examines existing patterns in data and recurring patterns to formulate conclusions. Achievements in this field are useful, for example, in supporting the diagnosis of diseases, analyzing the state of the market, predicting trends or determining future climate changes.
Deep learning
Deep learning – deep learning is a field of machine learning. Within it, neural networks, that is algorithms operating in a similar way to the human brain, learn from large amounts of data. Deep learning allows you to configure neurons in a neural network, resulting in a model that can process new data after training. Deep learning is mainly used to automate complex analytical tasks.
G words
Generative artificial intelligence
Generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) – it’s a kind of artificial intelligence, which is able to create various content – such as images, music, video or text – based on the data on which it is trained, usually in response to user queries.
I words
IVR
IVR (interactive voice response) – telecommunications system enabling interactive service of a person calling the hotline. This means that the interlocutor, after listening to previously recorded messages, selects appropriate options using tones or keyboard. Today, this solution is outdated and is increasingly being replaced by voicebots, communicating with humans in a natural language.
M words
Machine learning
Machine learning (ML) – this is a concept from the scope of artificial intelligence. It enables computers to learn from data and experience, and then apply what they learnt in the context of new data.
N words
Natural language
Natural language – a language governed by grammatical rules that people use every day to communicate. It is understandable, coherent and grammatically correct.
Natural language generation
Natural language generation (NLG) – it is a technology that enables the generation of texts and messages in natural language based on available data. It is used, among others, by chatbots and voicebots and is part of a broader concept of natural language processing.
Natural language processing
Natural language processing (NLP) – it is the possibility of understanding and generating natural language – spoken or written – by a computer program. To analyze data, machines use what is called machine learning, learning from available data and generalizing it to draw conclusions – thanks to this, they continue to improve their performance. Processing natural language is used in many areas, such as machine translation, text document analysis, content creation, search engine and email suggestions, operation of voicebots i chatbots and others. Read more about NLP.
Natural language understanding
Natural language understanding (NLU) – is a technology that is part of natural language processing, enabling artificial intelligence (including voicebots and chatbots) to understand the intentions of the person speaking in natural language.
Neural networks
Neural networks – neural networks are used in the field of artificial intelligence. They are computational systems with nodes that work similarly to neurons in the human brain (so-called artificial neurons). Thanks to algorithms they recognize hidden patterns and relationships in data, and they can analyze them. Neural networks, like the human mind, learn more and more over time.
R words
Robotics
Robotics – this is a section of artificial intelligence dealing with machine movement control, including in industry and agriculture.
S words
Speech synthesis
Speech synthesis (text to speech, TTS) – is a technology that enables machines to generate speech based on text. It is used by voicebots, which transform information intended for humans into a voice message.
V words
Voicebot
Voicebot – automatic voice assistant using natural language processing and talking to a human in natural language. Voicebots are used in many areas – such as customer service, recruitment and advertising. Find out more about voicebots.
